School Policies

In order for the school to operate in an organised, fair and respectful manner, we have a number of policies and standards.

Below are some of our core policies and standards.

Smoking, Drugs & Alcohol Use

Under no circumstances are any of the above accepted on the premises indoors or outside area. It is our policy that no member of staff, parents/carers or visitors are allowed to use any of the above whilst in the school building or grounds so we can promote good health to the children and ensure that they are in a safe environment.

If any member of staff is found using any of the above within the school then it will be brought to the attention of the Head Teacher who will take immediate action which can be dismissal.

If any member of staff see parents/cares or visitors entering the school whilst smoking etc they will be asked to stop. If they refuse they will be asked to leave immediately. The Head Teacher will be informed in all cases.

Food and Drink Policy

All food served in the nursery and school should be prepared daily on the school premises.

Drinks

Clean drinking water is available for the children throughout the day at school. Children are offered drinks at snack and lunchtimes. Children in the Early Years are offered sometimes milk and water.

Meals and snacks

Food is ordered on a weekly basis by kitchen staff and purchased from the women’s farm and local markets in the area.

Mobile Phone and Social Networking Policy

We believe our staff should be completely attentive during their hours of work to ensure all children in the school receive good quality care and education. This is why mobile phones are not to be used during working hours. This is also a safeguarding issue. Restrictions are placed on staff when they access social networking sites. The school/nursery and primary has a high reputation to upkeep and comments made on social media sites / online platforms could have an impact on how parents using the school view the staff. In order to maintain professional standards staff should not correspond with parents/cares using social networking sites.

Staff must adhere to the following:

  • Mobile phones (internet/phone connection) are not to be turned on during your working hours
  • Unauthorised use of cameras including smartphones is not permitted at the school.
  • Only the allocated camera/tablet which is the property of the school, nursery and primary is permitted to take pictures of the children on and off site i.e. in the playground, educational trips.
  • Staff must not post any photos or information onto private social networking sites
  • Staff should be aware that any comments made on social networking sites are subject to libel and are against confidentiality.
  • Staff must not post anything onto social networking sites that would offend any other member of staff.
  • If staff choose to allow parents to view their page on social networking site then this relationship must remain professional at all times. Best practise is not give access and ensure privacy sittings are used
  • If any of the above points are not followed then the member of staff involved will face disciplinary action, which could result in dismissal.

Hygiene Policy

Tubarere Nursery and Primary School is a clean and safe environment in which children can be healthy and thrive.

We aim to do this by:

  • Keeping up the date with the latest recommendation for hygiene practices.
  • Ensuring all staff are aware of the policy.
  • Maintaining a daily check book to record checks made, observations and action raised

Personal Hygiene

Children must be encouraged to wash their hands before eating, after using the toilet and after playing. Soap must be available at all times. Tissues should be available for children to wipe their noses and children should throw them in the bin provided.

Staff must ensure they model good personal hygiene by washing their hands before preparing snack, serving lunches and after using the toilets. Staff should also wash their hands after wiping children’s noses and changing nappies.

Environment

Cleaning staff must use appropriate equipment. Brushes, mops and buckets should be labelled for their area of use i.e toilets. All staff should ensure their room is tidy before leaving for the evening.

Bathroom facilities

The bathrooms must be checked at regular intervals before children enter, morning time , lunch time and at the end of each day.

Illness policy

Any child with sickness and/or diarrhoea must stay at home until they have been clear for 48 hours. We ask that parents use common sense when deciding to send a child to nursery/primary who they feel is unwell. The school cannot accept a sick child who may cause others to become ill. Coughing, using tissues to wipe their noses, washing hands when necessary- to reduce the risk of spreading infection. If you feel your child is not well enough to participate in all activities they should not be in the setting
